Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel

Florida Clinical Laboratory Continuing Education Requirements

Florida's standard established-licensee framework uses a 24-hour minimum with mandatory subjects and specialty obligations. First renewal is different, and specialty, license-level, missed-renewal, or Supervisor-qualification circumstances can change what applies.

Florida CE Requirements at a Glance

Standard established-licensee framework

Current Florida Board guidance publishes 20 General hours, 2 hours of Prevention of Medical Errors, 1 hour of Florida Laws & Rules, and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS for a 24-hour minimum. Your exact requirement can differ based on first-renewal status, license level, and the specialties on your license.

RequirementHoursNotes
General CE20Specialty hours are allocated within the applicable framework.
Prevention of Medical Errors2Must meet the current Florida Board course requirement.
Florida Laws & Rules1Standard established-licensee framework.
HIV/AIDS1Use the current Board-recognized pathway.
Minimum total24First renewal and license context can differ.
First renewal may be only 3 hours.

If this is the renewal after your first-ever Florida CLP license and your history fits the current exception, current guidance identifies 2 hours of Prevention of Medical Errors plus 1 hour of HIV/AIDS. Check first-renewal eligibility →

Director or Supervisor?

Florida separately requires one hour in administration and supervision. Current Board materials state that requirement separately from the 24-hour minimum and do not expressly settle in the reviewed wording whether it is included within the 24 hours or additional to them. Confirm the current Board requirement before assuming a 24- or 25-hour total.

Identify your renewal pathway

Use this as educational guidance only. Your current Florida license record and controlling Board requirements govern.

Current status

If your license is delinquent, inactive, expired, null-and-void, in reactivation, or you are not sure, do not infer a CE total from dates alone.

Use late/status guidance →

First-ever renewal history

If this may be the first renewal after your first-ever Florida CLP license, use the history-based first-renewal checklist before applying the standard 24-hour framework.

Established ordinary renewal

Start with the 24-hour framework above. For each applicable licensed specialty, allocate one of the 20 General hours to that specialty unless a current-biennium exception applies.

Supervisor qualification

Becoming or upgrading to Supervisor is a qualification workflow, not ordinary renewal CE. Route-specific 25-hour, 48-hour, certification, and experience requirements may apply.

Which Florida CE Path Applies to You?

Five distinct Florida laboratory pathways

Standard Renewal

Established-licensee renewal

Use the 24-hour framework, specialty allocation, and applicable Director/Supervisor requirement.

Specialty CE

One hour per applicable specialty

Map the specialties/designations on your Florida license to the correct CE treatment.

Specialty CE guide →

Specialty CE

One contact hour in each applicable licensed specialty

Current guidance requires one contact hour in each specialty category in which the individual is licensed. Those specialty hours fit within the applicable CE framework rather than automatically being added on top of the standard 24-hour minimum.

Home Study & Documentation

Online delivery is allowed, but eligibility still matters

Home study

Florida currently places no numerical cap on home-study courses for Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Each activity still must satisfy applicable subject, provider/course eligibility, and documentation requirements.

Keep your documentation

Current Rule 64B3-11.001 requires licensees to retain original CE certificates for at least four years. Confirm that your CE record and documentation reflect the correct subject and credit.

Florida Course Availability

Check course eligibility before enrolling

This guide does not list Florida-specific courses. Before enrolling, check each course's current eligibility for your license, required subject, and credit hours.

ASCP BOC CMP + Florida

Separate systems with directional overlap

Florida licensure and ASCP CMP are separate systems. ASCP may recognize qualifying education from organizations approved by state licensing boards under its current criteria, but P.A.C.E. credit by itself does not establish Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel renewal eligibility. Verify Florida eligibility separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Florida laboratory CE basics

How many CE hours are required for standard Florida laboratory renewal?
Current Board guidance publishes a 24-hour minimum framework: 20 General, 2 Medical Errors, 1 Florida Laws & Rules, and 1 HIV/AIDS. First renewal and certain license contexts differ.
Are specialty hours added on top of the 24-hour minimum?
No. Current reviewed guidance supports allocating applicable specialty hours within the General portion of the framework rather than automatically adding one extra hour per specialty above 24.
What if I missed the August 31, 2026 deadline?
The correct next step depends on your current license status. Check the live Board/MQA record and use the late/status guide before acting.
Can all Florida laboratory CE be completed online?
Florida currently places no numerical cap on home-study courses, but online delivery alone does not establish subject or provider/course eligibility.
Are Florida-specific MyHealthCE courses shown here?
This guide does not list Florida-specific courses. Check the current eligibility of any course you are considering for your license and renewal requirements.
